“The Poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow” “An American Poet” a new play was performed by Storyteller Country Joe Rosier on April 8, 2011 at the Lake Mary Historical Museum.
Many of you will recall your first glimpse of the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in elementary school when you heard “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere”. Others will remember reciting “The Village Blacksmith” in elementary school and you still may remember the words.
It was a great opportunity to present a historical visit to Longfellow’s home in Cambridge, MA on April 8, 1880 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the poem “The Village Blacksmith”.
After 11 months of research; reading hundreds of poems; visiting Longfellow’s home in Cambridge and hours of rehearsal, I was happy that I could bring history and poetry in to the Museum.
Thanks to the audience, the volunteers, the tech persons and the City of Lake Mary Historical Society and the City of Lake Mary for helping me present this glimpse of “The Fireside Poet”
